In reply to: Iraq’s Parliament

Published by marco on

Arab League Expects Iraq to Comply on the New York Newsday discusses Iraq’s response to the new “United Nations resolution that requires Baghdad to declare and destroy all its weapons of mass destruction.” In addition, neighboring countries in the “…Arab League yesterday urged Hussein to comply with the Security Council resolution”.

“Hussein yesterday ordered Iraq’s 250-member parliament to hold an emergency session today in Baghdad. The legislature is stacked with members of Hussein’s ruling Baath Party, and observers say it could provide political cover for Hussein to accept the UN resolution despite his earlier objections.”

“Bush administration officials dismissed the meeting as ‘ludicrous.’” and Condoleeza Rice said:

“Saddam Hussein is an absolute dictator and tyrant, and the idea that somehow he expects the Iraqi parliament to debate this − they’ve never debated anything else, … I’m surprised he’s even bothering to go through this ploy.”

It’s pretty funny when people don’t see the irony of what they’re saying, especially when it’s right in front of their noses, no? I mean, of all the administrations to poke fun at these types of machinations…talk about the pot calling the kettle black. If you still don’t see the irony, let me rewrite the quotes from above with the cast of characters changed.

“Bush yesterday ordered America’s 435-member Congress to hold an emergency session today in Washington. The legislature is stacked with members of Bush’s ruling Republican Party, and observers say it could provide political leverage for Bush to force the UN resolution despite their earlier objections.”

“The entire world dismissed the meeting as ‘ludicrous’” and everyone said:

“George Bush is an absolute dictator and tyrant, and the idea that somehow he expects the U.S. Congress to debate this − they’ve never debated anything else, … I’m surprised he’s even bothering to go through this ploy.”

Crystal clear now, I hope.
