Chomsky and ZMag reactions

Published by marco on

This interview with Noam Chomsky on ZMag is a question and answer session from September 19, 2001. It covers a range of topics involving terrorism, imperialism and, of course, the attack on September 11.

… we should recognize that in much of the world the US is regarded as a leading terrorist state, and with good reason. We might bear in mind, for example, that the US was condemned by the World Court for “unlawful use of force” (international terrorism) and then vetoed a Security Council resolution calling on all states (meaning the US) to adhere to international law.

He points out that this conflict is different from any other war we’ve been in, as we’ve been told innumerable times since the attack by both the media and elected (and non-elected) officials. However, it’s different not because there is no real enemy:

It is a new type of war [because] the guns are directed in a different direction, something quite new in the history of Europe and its offshoots.
