Finally … a Veto.

Published by marco on

Bush is Laughing at YouIn a move that was stunning on many levels, Bush finally vetoed a bill that the Congress had sent on for his approval. After letting over five years of pork legislation ooze its way across his desk without being in any danger whatsoever, Bush finally unleashed the mighty power of his pen to hold back a piece of legislation that was roundly viewed as a senseless waste of taxpayer money and precious time for all parties involved.

I’ll give you three guesses what it was … and the first two don’t count.

Remember that little censure thingie Russ Feingold was so hot about a week or two ago? “Oh no he didn’t”, you may say. Oh yes he did. Just when you thought the sheer brazenness of this administration could get no worse—when you thought that Cheney had everyone else beat hands down—in swaggers America’s favorite cocky cowboy to defile the constitution right in front of everyone.

And why shouldn’t he? It’s not like he’s given it much thought before. As he said in yesterday’s press conference, “The American people didn’t re-elect me[1] to … show weakness in this war on terror.” There you go, folks, the “war president” can’t be questioned, not even when an amazingly rallyed Congress actually passes a bill worth supporting. Even when it’s just a piddly censure instead of a full-blown impeachment.

It’s not even worth quoting more of his asinine reasons why he thinks it’s legal to veto his own censure—it’s more than likely all logically airtight claptrap written by his army of soulless speechwriters. Any challenges to his veto will likely land before the executive power lackeys with which he’s packed the justice department, like Gonzalez or Alito. Though it’s long been clear that he only cares about the electorate for a few months every four years, it’s worth noting that—with one flourish of the pen—Bush has officially dragged America one more brazen step towards absolute dictatorship.

Up next? Elections are such a bother…
