Daily Show Full Episodes Complaint

Published by marco on

In early September, the Daily Show and the Colbert Report made a triumphant return after a hiatus of a few weeks. They unfortunately dragged some obnoxious commercials with them, so I wrote the following note to Comedy Central:

“I just checked out the first show for this fall and noted that the commercials are back. That’s cool, you guys gots to get paid; however, is there any reason you need to run the same pair/trio of commercials in four, two-minute blocks during about 20 minutes of content? Are you telling me you can’t get any sponsors for the Daily Show other than those immensely unappealing Jackass-ripoff shows? As if that weren’t bad enough, the volume for the commercial block is much higher than for the show. Wheeee; thanks for that. Now, not only do I get to see quite a lot of commercial content (though I’m getting Jon & co. for free, I understand), but I get to stay occupied with playing with the volume as well. I’m watching this on a computer, mere inches away. You already have my rapt attention. Are you trying to drive me away? ‘Cause I love the show, but I’m also pretty sure I won’t be coming back as regularly as I did before … and it’s not because of the mere presence of commercials, it’s because of the vapidity of them as well as their insulting presentation.

“Here’s hoping you can make watching the Daily Show on your site a pleasant experience again soon.”

A week later, the commercials were gone, leading me to believe the I had unparalleled power and influence over Comedy Central. A few weeks after that, commercials were back, but now from National car rentals. These commercials are mercifully much shorter and not nearly as vacuous, though still pretty stupid in their own right. The same commercial is still repeated 3–4 times per show.
