Church Blames Gays

Published by marco on

The New York Newsday is reporting that Vatican Reaffirms Anti-homosexual Stand. In a stunning turnaround of events, the church has admitted that it has deep-rooted problems and has accepted all blame for them, vowing to do better and fix their problems. Just kidding.

“Noting that most reported cases of sex abuse have involved priests and boys, Catholic officials in Rome have reaffirmed their stand against homosexuality, saying gays should not become priests.”

I knew it was the gays. Damn it, they screw up everything. The church is right, gays have to go. I’m surprised, however, that those evil abortionists aren’t somehow mixed up in it as well.

But, wait, you might say. There’s no statistical correlation between pedophilia and homosexuality. You’d be right. In a sentence that appeared in the print version of the newspaper, but is missing from the article:

“Civil libertarians have also noted that some case studies show that the overwhelming majority of pedophilia cases are carried out by heterosexual men.”

In fact, if you check Homosexuality and Child Molestation, you’ll find an interesting discussion of public perceptions about child molestation. Basically, most child-molesters are male. Most victims are boys. Just because a man molests a boy does not make him a homosexual.

The Catholic Church’s reaction is typical today, though. The best defense is a good offense. Turn a negative into a positive. When the church is accused of hiding heinous crimes against children, the response is to push blame on an age-old enemy and kill two birds with one stone. The onus is off the church and the blame is placed on homosexuals.

This is similar to the moral turpitude of Microsoft’s behavior in its ongoing anti-trust case. When Microsoft is convicted of being a monopoly, they suggest that their punishment be that they are forced to spend $1 Billion on the educational market, which they haven’t been able to get a monopoly on in any other way. Turn a negative into a positive.

Why not? It’s actually quite easy to do when morals and principles don’t stand in the way. The church seems to agree as they defend their hard-won constituency and their contributions to the collection plates. Jimmy Breslin, also of the Newsday, pointed out in You Can Just Kiss My Ring, the Cardinal of New York has the same lack of principle.

“Cardinal Egan knocked himself out with his silence act when a decent leader would have looked people in the eye and told them exactly what he had done to protect and cover up for pedophiles in parishes under his direction.”

Egan has been involved in cover-ups of pederast priests, but when asked about the problem of priests abusing their power and trust to do these evil things, he said “I am not aware of any of those things. I am aware of the claims of those things, the allegations of those things.” When asked whether it wasn’t obvious that the incidences were increasing, he reasonably replied, “Over the time allegations have increased.” That’s a good answer if someone is wildly accusing something. But the connection between the priesthood and pedophilia is established and has been extensively covered up by the Church itself, so the answer in this case reeks of arrogance.
