Kerry: He’s Peaking, Already (CounterPunch) goes to the heart of the problem with every “viable” Democratic candidate:

“Kerry agrees with Bush about the tax cuts. He agrees with him about the Patriot Act. He agrees with him on trade. He agrees with him on the war. … Kerry voted for the Patriot Act and he voted for the ‘03 attack on Iraq.”

He’s a veteran of the war Bush skipped out on … but he objected to it afterwards. The sad thing is that objecting to the crime that was Vietnam will hurt him more than fighting in it. He’s clueless about the war itself and of America’s history: “I say to both conservative and liberal misinterpretations of that war it’s time to get over it and recognize it as an exception, not as a ruling example, of the US military engagements of the twentieth century.” Let’s stop talking about it, so we don’t notice that Iraq is the same thing all over again.

There is no difference.

There is no difference that you will feel, notice, be proud of, or care about. The change in the White House, should it be a Democrat, won’t affect your life in any way. Whatsoever.

You won’t have better or easier health care. Schools will not get better. The debt and deficit will probably not get better. Jobs won’t appear. Cars won’t become more efficient. Flying will not be fun again. You won’t be a proud member of the International community. You won’t stop attacking Palestinians with 3 Billion of your tax dollars per year. Military spending will not decrease. Troops will not come home. Imperialism, interventions and manipulation of other countries will not stop. Africa still won’t be a priority. Foreign and domestic policy will become no less Christian. Gays will not be more accepted. The first amendment will be no less subject to ‘interpretation’. Homeland security will not ease off. The FBI won’t lose their right to watch your every move. Corporate power will not be reigned in. Markets will not get freer or fairer. Wages will not increase. Vacations will not get longer. Medicine will not get cheaper. Drugs will not become legal — the drug war will not end. The upper class will continue to leave the ‘middle’ and lower classes farther and farther behind. Women, blacks, other minorities, the poor — none of them will notice a whit of difference.

And neither will you.

We all know these things couldn’t happen right away, but neither will they ever happen if most of the country keeps voting against its own interests. They won’t happen because Democrats don’t give a shit about any of these issues either. Kerry’s richer than God — what does he care about all that stuff?

Because it’s the right thing to do? What’s the emoticon for ‘gut laugh’?

Nader’s running. Do yourself a favor and go read something Nader wrote, something Bush wrote and something Kerry wrote. Ask yourself, objectively, with whom you agree the most. Ask yourself who really won the American revolution. Ask yourself if you’re happy with the results.

Then ask yourself what ‘wasting your vote’ really means.
